I don’t know about you but I’m stocking up on junk food and chocolate for election night and staying up to watch the results. That doesn’t mean that we can’t have some fun and let off some steam with a few of our favorite election themed movies. Hold a marathon for your teens, young adults, or older patrons before the weekend is out or after the election is over!
For fun, serve red and blue themed food, like strawberries and blueberries on sticks with marshmallows or bananas, red and blue jello with whipped cream, or even a red and blue themed dessert pizza.
ELECTION (199): A high school teacher’s life (Matthew Broderick) gets extremely messy when he has to oversee student elections, especially when an overachiever (Reese Witherspoon) decides she needs to become student body president.
DAVE (1993): When the unthinkable happens and the President (Kevin Kline) falls into a coma, his advisors find an uncanny lookalike to take his place. Problem is, his look-alike is nothing like him. Can he pull off the switch of a life-time?
THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT (1995) : Sparks fly when a widowed president (Michael Douglas) starts to fall in love with a lobbyist (Annette Benning), and then rumours abound once their relationship is found out as he seeks re-election.
NAPOLEON DYNAMITE (2004): Your teens quote this and they don’t even know it; give them the background for their cultural references. Napoleon decides to help his new friend win the class presidency by demonstrating his “skills”.
BATMAN RETURNS (1992): A bonus, both an election movie AND a holiday movie so you can a two-for-one! When a corrupt businessman and Oswald Cobblepot join together to try and take over Gotham, can Batman save his city? And what about Catwoman?
