I’ve been a science fiction and fantasy lover since I was little, so Leonard Nimoy was a household name. I could name him along with other actors inĀ Star Trek, Star Wars, and other science fiction saga movies and series long before I knew facts of history or names of states and countries- which I’m not sure is a good or bad thing.
Growing up, watched the original Star Trek episodes so many times that I didn’t realize until I hit college that there were only three seasons- if you asked me I would have sworn that there were as many as there were Cheers or M*A*S*H or any other series you could name. Then came the movies, and the guest appearances, and the expansions of characters through novelizations and graphic novels.
We also watched him as Paris in re-runs of Mission: Impossible along side Peter Graves and Martin Landau. He just seemed to be THERE.
And I admit, I had a bit of fun playing with teens minds showing Invasion of the Body Snatchers and showing them not only President Snow from The Hunger Games but Mr. Spock as well.
When they rebooted the Star Trek franchise in 2009, and there were rumors of a cameo from previous cast members, he was the first one to come to my mind; never did I imagine the role that he would play in reshaping the new shape of the Star Trek world as Spock Prime.
He did wonderful things on screen and off, a huge supporter of the arts and a deeply spiritual person that fans could feel upon meeting him at comic cons.
He was an icon, personally and professionally, and he will be sorely missed.
