Taking readers back to the Caster world of Lena and Ethan, Dangerous Creatures ends shortly after Beautiful Redemption ends. Ethan, Lena, Ridley, Link, Liv, and John have finished the summer and are parting ways for college and beyond. Ridley and Link, still smarting from fights and dishonesty left from Beautiful Chaos and Beautiful Redemption, are on shaky ground and not sure where their relationship is going to take them. However, when Lena spells a cast to bind everyone to each other and 6 rings appear, the future may be more than any of them can take.
Ridley still owes her markers to the house: one drummer and one favor to be called in later, for an entire year. Thinking that she can help Link and redeem a marker at the same time, she brings Link to New York to be the drummer for a Supernatural band- owned by the Dark Caster who holds her markers, Lennox Gatse. However, he has his dark secrets as well, and New York is not safe for Casters or Mortals, no matter what the fairy tales say. Ridley and Link are at their best and worst, but can their love- and their lives- survive the trials that await them?
LOVED
The extension of Ridley and Link. They were two of my favorite characters in the Beautiful Creatures series, and I was SOOOO disappointed in the way they were portrayed in the movie. Ridley was meant to be over-the-top and sexy Siren, not Southern Sophisticate. The way that her character has developed through out the previous books shows in this one: before, Ridley wouldn’t think twice about her actions, yet now she shows that she WANTS to be good, that she WANTS to have what Lena and Ethan have, and that the lines between Dark and Light Caster aren’t always decided by destiny. Her struggles are real, and we see more of her world than we ever have.
LIKED
The delving into the Darker world of the Casters, and the fact that the Caster world expands further than Gatlin. Readers can get so caught up in the fact that the whole previous series is in basically one place that they never think that there have to be Casters elsewhere. I also really liked the twists and turns throughout the story; it really kept me guessing about what would happen next.
HATED
The fact that the book starts off with Lena casting a binding spell and these six rings coming out of that spell, nothing really happens WITH the rings in the books. Yes, they changed colors somewhat to show danger with Ridley and Link, but nothing really momentous occurred with them- which is what I’ve come to expect with Lena’s magic from reading the books. It’s just, “Oh, my ring is glowing. Huh.”
AHHHH MOMENT
The ending. The cliffhanger is one of those ones where, as a reader, you are just left with OMG WHAT JUST HAPPENED, and while I can hope there are other books coming (and there has to be with the way it’s been set up), this one has been completely Ridley and Link with little sparks of Lena, it may be that everyone is set to their fate and this is just the way to seal them.
