In September over on Teen Services Underground, Faythe wrote about creating glitter jars with her teens and how big of a hit it was. If you missed it, the article is here. She used small jars, and then what over here in Orlando they call fairy or pixie dust jars, itty bitty baby jars that look like this:
But it got me thinking, why stop just at glitter? Why not expand it into fandoms? You could have a craftapolooza of sensory bottles.
So I searched around a bit, and someone actually did!
Over at Little Bins for Little Hands, they’ve created Light Saber Sensory Bottles. I kid you not. Look:
SUPPLIES:
- Glitter glue (or clear glue, glitter, and food coloring)
- Water bottles (they use Voss, you could use any donated ones)
- Silver and Black Duct Tape
- Scissors
- Glow Sticks
That’s it. Extremely simple, and you have light sabers. Go online and print out the color examples, or have access to the internet for those hardcore fans who want to know exactly what color and design their favorite person has, and have at it.
But wait, why stop there? Get a little intricate and dig out the duct tape materials and let the fandoms take over. Exacto knives, cutting mats, and all the duct tape patterns can let teens inner creative muses loose. For example:
Blue, white and black duct tape, with some sharpies with glitter and blue glow sticks = TARDIS sensory bottles
Gold/black, red/black, or blue/black with glitter and chosen color of glow sticks with the insignia cutouts= Star Trek bottles
blue/bronze, green/silver, yellow/black, or red/gold with glitter and accent glow sticks with accents= Hogwarts houses sensory bottles
See? Pull out the primary colors of the characters (or fandom), and ta da!
