You always have to have a support network- no matter how strong you think you are, you need to have someone in your life to share things with. Those friends, those special people with whom you can share the highs, the lows, and in-the-middles, no matter where they are or what time it is, they are the ones that you can call with anything that’s bothering you, and they know they can do the same.
Via Facebook and other social media, friendship seems to take on a lighter tone: some try to collect “friends” as status symbols to see who’s more popular, or to show off to those around them for some reason. Time and distance also separate us from friends that we started out with. Friends from our hometown lose touch, and friends from college can grow distant as lives move in different directions. Yet if you think about it, you can usually think of one or two people who you can count on to be that listening ear when you need them to be- the sounding board to your successes and crashes, the friends who will take up your cause in an instant and support you because they care for you.
And that’s a wonderful thing to be thankful for and inspired by.
