Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is HUGE in the community that I work in. There will be celebrations and events going on all throughout the week at various locations, with the smells of spices and the sound of music in the air all around. When people traditionally think of Latin/Hispanic music, what comes to mind immediately is mariachi:
And mariachi is wonderful- but there is so much more to Latin music than Mariachi! Where do you think Christina Aguilara, Selena, Celia Cruz, Esperanza Spalding, Mariah Carey, Gloria Estaban trace their heritage from?
What about Paulina Rubio, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Kat de Luna, Carlos Santana, and Natalie Jimenez?
There is a huge Latin market for music, and often artists cross both the American and Latin charts. In honor of the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, I’ve put together a Latin Music Playlist of songs and their artists that are really hot right now- and don’t be surprised if you find some familiar names! Give it a chance, maybe you’ll find your next favorite. And if you think I’ve missed something, tell me in the comments!
