Want a quick, easy way to introduce your teens to the idea of the Steampunk genre? Show a movie! There has been a plethora of movies that have embraced steampunk, and the following can serve as an introduction into the genre. Pair them as a movie festival with a book display, and get interest in the genre- check and see if you have a steampunk affectionado club in the area, and if they’ll appear and give pointers on dress, as well.
Note: These movies were not vetted through any umbrella licensing organization. Please check with your vendor before showing any movie in your library; showing movies legally is always preferable to losing your job.
Note: This post was originally published on Teen Librarian’s Toolbox on February 26, 2013, and was written by Christie Gibrich while blogging for TLT. It was originally labeled Movie Break: Steampunk in the Theater, and was taken down later in 2013 by that blog’s owner. This post has been updated and revised from the original posting.
